Kenny McMullan
November 27, 2024
Kenny McMullan, native cowboy of west Texas, passed away peacefully at his ranch home November 22, 2024. He had been watching the Red Steagall program on TV.
He was born in San Angelo, Texas November 14, 1935 to Floyd and Laura McMullan. He began his school life in Big Lake, TX. His parents moved to San Angelo, as his father pastured sheep on the grain fields close by. Kenny graduated from Central High School in San Angelo in 1953.
Kenny attended Texas Tech majoring in Ag Business. He also was on the Texas Tech rodeo team. Kenny was an avid horseman. He held a PRCA card. He roped calves on "Lemonade" and won jackpots and rodeos. On one occasion he won San Antonio and 22 years later Shawn and Fred Whitfield won the same event competing in calf roping.
Kenny left Texas Tech to help his dad but was drafted by the US Army and reported to Ft. Hood for basic training. Then he was sent to Germany where he became the company carpenter. He and Elvis Presley were in Germany at the same time but were not in the same company. However, he arranged for his parents and sister to come there. They toured the surrounding area and had many fond memories.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Kenny and Glenda happened to meet one another at the Big Lake Jr. Rodeo dance in July, fell in love and were married December 28, 1963. At Kenny's death they had been married 60+ years. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Shawn Drake (deceased) and Mecca Jo McMullan. Mecca helped take care of her dad and was holding his hand when he went to heaven.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Laura McMullan; brother and sister-in-law, Johnnie and Peggie McMullan; son, Shawn McMullan; and brother-in-law, Joe Warren Friend.
Kenny is survived by his wife Glenda and daughter Mecca.
