Crockett County ratifies proposed tax rate

September 16, 2026

OzonaThe Crockett County Commissioners Court ratified the property-tax rate reflected in the county budget during an Aug. 26 called session, with the three commissioners present and County Judge Frank Tambunga voting in favor.

Commissioner Mike Medina of Precinct 4 was absent. Commissioners Elsa Fierro of Precinct 1, G.L. Bunger of Precinct 2 and Wesley Bean of Precinct 3 joined Tambunga in the recorded vote to ratify the tax rate under Texas Local Government Code §102.007.

Proposed county rate

Tambunga read the proposed Crockett County tax rate into the record as $0.0880003 per $100 of taxable valuation.

The court’s action ratified the property-tax rate reflected in the budget.

School tax rate pending

The court did not take action to set the 2025 tax rate for Crockett County Consolidated Common School District because the district had not yet submitted its proposed rate.

The school will submit their proposed tax rate in September.

The distinction matters because Crockett County and the consolidated common school district have separate tax-rate actions.

Commissioners also reviewed and discussed each line item in the proposed 2026 county budget during a budget workshop.

No members of the public spoke during the meeting’s open-forum period.
