Staff report

Crockett County — A new flash flood warning is in effect for much of Crockett County beginning July 14, with additional flash flood warnings extending east through Sonora. Rainfall totals overnight climbed above 5 inches in some places, with a band of moderate to heavy rain continuing to drift slowly south across the area.

Low water crossings, poor drainage areas, city streets across central and southern Crockett and Sutton counties, and other low-lying areas will fill with swiftly flowing flood waters. Normally dry arroyos may become flooded and impassable. Do not attempt to cross areas where water covers the road. Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown.

"Any residents who live on the Pecos River, please be careful," Sheriff Victor De La Garza said. "Our local game warden advised that the Pecos River was at 8 feet and was expected to rise to 14 feet.

"Please stay alert and ready to vacate the area at a moment's notice. [I might] start to come to town to be on the safe side. The game warden will give us more information as needed.

"Again, anyone who lives on the Pecos River should stay alert for rising water. If you know someone who lives on the Pecos River, please let them know."
