Youth showcase skills at livestock show
Ozona—The 79th Annual Crockett County Junior Livestock Show was held this past weekend, continuing a tradition of showcasing youth dedication, agricultural skills and community pride.
This year, 36 Crockett County 4-H members participated in the show, exhibiting a range of livestock projects that reflected the diversity of the county’s youth agriculture programs. Exhibits included fine wool lambs, Dorper lambs, meat goats, Angora goats, rabbits, chickens and a horse show.
Some exhibitors focused on a single species, while others raised and showed multiple animals. Organizers said the variety of projects demonstrated the broad opportunities available through 4-H and the commitment of participants.
Regardless of the number of animals shown, exhibitors demonstrated responsibility, animal husbandry skills and a strong work ethic developed through months of preparation.
“The Crockett County Junior Livestock Show is about more than competition,” Rebecca Taylor said. “It’s an opportunity for our youth to build life skills like responsibility, leadership and confidence. Seeing the dedication these exhibitors put into their projects year after year makes this event truly special.”
For nearly 80 years, the junior livestock show has served as a cornerstone event in Crockett County, providing hands-on learning experiences that emphasize leadership, record keeping, sportsmanship and perseverance. Organizers said those skills extend well beyond the show ring and help prepare participants for future academic and career success.
Volunteers and organizers were encouraged by the continued enthusiasm from exhibitors and families, as well as the steady growth of the program. They credited parents, volunteers, sponsors and community members for their ongoing support.
The event remains a cherished tradition and an important part of youth development in the county.
Community members expressed anticipation for the milestone year and continued support for the next generation of agricultural leaders.
